Whenever a lot
of dogs get together, there is always the possibility of picking
up an illness such as kennel cough. (This happened at a Bichon Bash
in another part of the country.) For this reason, we
recommend that you speak to your vet and ask his or her recommendation
for precautions you might want to take for your beloved dog(s).
You may want
to do this soon, since some vaccinations (including Bordetella,
or kennel cough) take a few weeks to become fully effective. Here
is a list of preparations that may be recommended:
 |
Rabies
vaccine |
 |
Flea
and tick preventatives |
 |
Bordetella
intranasal vaccine |
 |
Heartworm
preventative |
 |
Distemper
vaccine (including lepto) |
 |
Corona
vaccine |
 |
Parvo vaccine |
 |
Lyme vaccine |
Like much of this area, we have a lot of deer roaming around.
We use Frontline TopSpot flea and tick preventative on our dogs each
month. You may want to specifically discuss
the issue of tick prevention with your vet so you can take the precautions
that you think are best for your dog(s). The point of this discussion
is not to scare anyone off, but to suggest preparations that will
make the Bash safe and enjoyable for everyone.
