Volunteer Activities on DAY OF BASH:

Set up Temporary Fencing* (NEED 3 MORE!)
Set-Up Bichon Boutique (NEED 6 MORE!)

Set-Up Other Areas (NEED 2 MORE!)
Work Registration Table (NEED 6 MORE FOR AFTERNOON SHIFTS)
Work Bichon Boutique (NEED 12 MORE )
Gatekeeper (NEED 3 MORE!)
"Runners" (help where needed)
Clean-Up (NEED 12 MORE!)

*In order for the dogs to run free, we must set up a secure fenced-in area for the Bash.
To do that we need TEN STRONG VOLUNTEERS to help set up the temporary fencing.
We will need you to COMMIT to being at the Bash site by 8:00 AM on Sunday morning
to allow enough time to fence-in the very large area needed.
We will bring the supplies.
You just need to bring your manpower (and you may want to bring work gloves).

2008 Bash Information

Minimum donation is $8 per person over 12 years old; $5 for those 5 yrs - 11 yrs; and none for those under 5 years. Pre-payment of the donation is required, as well as pre-registration. See below for Donation Payment Methods, including pre-payment deadline.
Bichons only, please

All pets must be current on their vaccinations. Please note that if your bichon needs a bordetella (kennel cough) vaccine, it takes two weeks to get to full efficacy -- so please get the vaccine as soon as possible. You may want to refer to our page on Vaccinations.

No male dogs over six months old that have not been neutered.
Please leave your female bichon at home if she is in heat.
Prince William County has a leash law, so be certain to bring a leash with you.
You will need it whenever your bichon is outside the fenced area.
Bring a picnic lunch for you and your family to enjoy.
Bottled water & canned soda will be available for purchase, with proceeds to Rescue. Homemade desserts will be provided at no charge.
Watering stations will be provided for the dogs.
Bring an adequate supply of poop bags.
Please bring lawn chairs. There will be some seating available in the pavilion, but you may want to sit closer to the presentation areas.
In order to be able to return to the park for future events, we must be diligent in cleaning up after our bichons, properly disposing of trash.
NO SMOKING within the fenced-in area. Properly dispose of cigarettes if smoking in other areas of the park.

Donation Payment Methods:

Pre-payment of the minimum donation of $8.00 per person registered over the age of 12
and $5.00 per person for children 5 - 11 years is required
in order for your registration to be complete.

If your registration is not paid within 7 days of completing your on-line registration,
you may lose your "space". We are expecting a sold out event, so do not delay in submitting
your online registration AND your donation prepayment.

Payment may be made by VISA, MasterCard, check or money order.

She'll talk to your animals ... and then tell you what they have to say!

Let Diane Roadcap, an Animal Communicator and radio personality, tell you what your pet is thinking,
help you understand his/her behavior problems, try to find what out why your dog is in pain,
or connect with pets now at the Rainbow Bridge.
Diane is recognized as one of the world's foremost pet psychics
and she will be offering individual sessions at the Bash.

Reading for 1 pet in household = 15 minutes and costs $40.00
Reading for 2 pets in same home = 20 minutes and costs $50.00
Reading for 3 or 4 pets in same home = 30 minutes and costs $80.00

Diane donates a portion of each session to Bichon Rescue!

Payment for your session will be made directly to Diane at your reading.

Jim Poor Photography

Jim Poor, an incredibly talented pet photographer, will be doing photo sessions at this year's Bash.
You can have a photograph done of just your bichon(s), or of you and your best friend(s)!

Jim will donate a portion of each sale to Bichon Rescue!

No appointments necessary!
Just go up to the photographer's tent (outside the fenced-in area) and say "Cheese"!

COST
Sitting fee = $10 (normally $75)
This includes up to two dogs in one session; $5 more for each additional dog
Separate sitting sessions are billed at $10 each
Payment will be made directly to Jim Poor Photography

Individual prints start at only $8 each (for 5" x 7")
Choice of sizes including VERY large size prints - Details of sizes & pricing will be at the Bash

12:00 PM - 2:30 PM

Ask the Vet!

Dr. Adrienne Cardella, a veterinarian from Kingsbrook Animal Hospital in Frederick, MD,
will host the "Ask the Vet" table where you can ask questions about the care of your bichon.

The veterinarians and staff of Kingsbrook Animal Hospital have been treating the bichons of
Maryland Bichon Frise Rescue (as well as many bichon families in Maryland and Virginia) for over 10 years.
They know bichons (as well as other dog breeds, cats, rabbits, birds, and more)!

Feel free to ask questions about allergies, hot spots, tear staining, teeth cleaning, importance of weight control, behavior issues, or other topics that will help you become a better guardian of your bichon.

. . . . How to train the HUMANS!

Be prepared to laugh and learn at the same time!
Lloyd Aguero, Applied Canine Problem Behavior Consultant and
Director of the Great Falls/Reston Companion Dog Training School
will discuss the relationship between dogs and their humans,
and how human behavior affects our dogs' behavior.

Lloyd, along with his co-instructor Kristen Steingrandt, will review some of the
Laws of Animal Learning and Positive Reinforcement,
and how YOU can make your best friend even better!

After the presentation, Lloyd and Kristen will be at the Training Table to answer additional questions.

Watch a Kat "Do" A Dog!

Kat Brooks , owner of Dog-A-Do Salon in Herndon, VA, will give tips on
grooming your bichon and answer your grooming questions.

Kat will demonstrate her grooming skills on a bichon while you watch and learn!

Following Kat's presentation, she will be at the Grooming Table to answer more of your questions.

Haymarket, Virginia is located about 35 miles west of Washington, DC off of Interstate 66.
From I-66 westbound, take the Haymarket exit (Highway 15) and head north.
Follow Highway 15 for approximately 3.5 miles. James S. Long Park is on the right-hand side.
The Capitol Bichon Bash is being held at the first pavilion on the left.

The Red Roof Inn - Manassas, VA is located about 15 minutes away from the Bash site.
The best rates available are obtained by booking via the Internet.

Nearby RV Park

Greenville Farm Campground in Haymarket, VA is only 2.5 miles from the Bash location.
It is a 200 acred working farm with 43 wooded acres developed for your camping pleasure.
Campers are welcome to roam around the farm, see the animals, and even go fishing and swimming.
